The significance of good food is an increasingly important asset for airports as well, which are racing to invest in the service experience and interesting restaurant concepts. Helsinki Airport handles 20 million passengers every year, and their choices are mostly driven by time. Travelers in a hurry appreciate fast, light, and healthy options, such as a stuffed sandwich or smoothie. However, many also have time to enjoy the airport a bit longer.
Of the 30 plus restaurants at Helsinki Airport, 19 venues are owned by HMSHost Finland Oy. HMSHost launched operations in Finland in 2014 and has grown fast. The diverse range of customers are served with dedication throughout the venues. The goal is to stand out and highlight Scandinavian flavors. Especially foreign travelers are interested in reindeer and lake fish. Pier Zero is a restaurant serving these delicacies and overlooking the runway, allowing customers to admire arriving and departing aircraft while enjoying their meal.
The food shipments arriving at the airport are X-rayed, and safety is not compromised at any time. Logistics is made easier by the fact that the restaurants all operate under the same roof and products can be distributed in one place. The opening of the new logistics center of Wihuri's Metro wholesale right next to the airport in Viinikkala, Vantaa, has made logistics even easier. General Manager of HMSHost Juha Räsänen says that Wihuri’s Metro wholesale was the most natural choice of partner due to the excellent price-quality ratio.
– We have received help and support in many issues, such as finding suitable products for our concepts,” says GM of HMSHost Juha Räsänen, summing up the cooperation.
